Meet the Team

We have an amazing team of engineers from all different disciplines and grade levels. Together, we bring all types of skills and experiences to the table and have the ability to make a real difference through the projects we work on.  Our different backgrounds allow for a unique advantage, and we cannot wait to see the outcomes we produce!

Kalina Scarbrough

President and Founder

Junior, Industrial Engineering

I am also minoring in Maintainability and Reliability. I am passionate about giving back to my community, and that is what this organization is all about. I have also been the Community Service Chair for Rotaract International, Secretary for IISE, Mentor and Ambassador in Society of Women Engineers, and Undergraduate Research Assistant. In my free time I love hang out with friends, going to the dog park with my rescue puppy, eating lots of food, and playing golf.

Michelle Claxton

Vice President

Junior, Biomedical Engineering

I chose my major because I like creating and witnessing innovations, especially in the medical field. I am the vice president of EWB this year, and I want to help grow this club along with the other cabinet members. Personally, I enjoy small get-togethers with friends where we hike, watch movies, or enjoy any other random activity we can think of. Professionally, I wish to pursue a Ph.D. focusing on pathology, biology, and biomedical engineering, so I can join the research community and create innovations of my own.

Darlene Filomena

Junior, Biosystems Engineering

Outside of classes I am an undergrad researcher here at UTK, I am researching woody biomass logistics in the southeast United States. Some of my favorite things to do is organize things like my room or my computer, watching documentaries in Netflix especially about the royal families, and spending time with my dog.

Zach Medley

Junior, Chemical Engineering

I have a minor in Environmental Engineering. In my professional career, I would like to either go into the energy sector or work with renewable energy resources. I joined Engineers Without Borders because I want to use my professional skills to give back to the community. I also enjoy swimming and hiking.

Peter Cooper

Community Committee Chair

Junior, Chemical Engineering

I have a bio-molecular concentration and a minor in reliability and maintainability.  I like to spend my free time outside hiking and kayaking in the Smokey Mountains. My favorite part of the fall is cheering on the VOLs in football and basketball. Also, check out my great dog (MO) pictured with me.

Arden Davis

Personal Committee Chair

Sophomore, Computer Science

Most of my time these days is spent trying to wrap my head around computer programming. I am hoping to study Neuroscience to learn more about the connection between computers and the mind. In my free time I like to crochet, sail, and grub with my friends.

Anh Nguyen

Community Committee  Vice Chair

Junior, Chemical Engineering

I have bio-molecular concentration within chemical engineering. I have done a great amount of volunteer work at UT so with my current role, I’m willing to get more students involved with our fun community project as this is a great way for us to practice certain engineering skills to give back to the community. In addition, I’m passionate about cooking, especially with Vietnamese cuisine. I love sharing my Vietnamese food with my friends as part of showing them my culture

Jake Armiger

Personal Committee Vice Chair

I am minoring in business administration. I like coding, but my passion is to make a meaningful change in the lives of others. In my free time I enjoy running, reading, and spending time with my friends!
